While owning a small farm that is just for your family and enjoyment does not require all the huge, expensive equipment of big, commercial farms, there are still going to be some smaller pieces you will want and need to make your life much easier. Luckily, you can get a small tractor or ATV and some attachments to get the work done and save you from having to do a lot of the manual labor. Don't be worried though; there will still be plenty of heavy work for you to take care of yourself. Here are a few things to consider getting that you will be glad to have.
Having a trailer to attach to your tractor or ATV will save you from having to push around a wheel barrel to move things around the property. Even if you have only a few acres, moving hay, manure, soil, or other aggregate is heavy, hard work. You can move a lot more, in a much shorter amount of time when you have a vehicle and trailer. In addition, it will save you from a lot of aches and pains.
There will be times when you need to move things you cannot lift up into a trailer. A front-end loader is a great way to get this done. In many ways, it is similar to a hand truck or forklift but can pick up things you would need to use a shovel or scoop to get such as dirt or another aggregate. In addition, the loader can then move its load and dump it into a trailer to be hauled further and in larger amounts.
A bucket attachment is basically a large, machine-operated shovel. It can be used to help dig holes for fence posts, a trench for new water lines, or scoop up the manure out of a pen. You will be surprised at the amount of digging you end up doing on a farm. One tractor and bucket will save a lot of time and energy, so you can do the things you enjoy like horseback riding or working in the garden.
Go to a tractor showroom and ask to see the different models and all the attachments available. Explain about your farm and what you are doing with it. The salespeople will be able to help you determine which model and attachments will be best for your needs.

When some friends had us over for dinner to enjoy a meal filled with garden fresh vegetables, we decided to plant one of our own. We started by asking our friends to show us how to level the land and prepare the soil. Next, we planted a variety of fruits and veggies that we thought we would actually eat. However, things quickly became tricky. We had to figure out how to keep each of the vegetables alive and well, which was easier said than done. This blog is all about learning how to grow a healthy garden. It was hard for us, but if you read these blogs, you might be able to learn from our mistakes.
